Justine was out of options. She had already lost missed the last bus that day and the nearest payphone was more than a mile away. She’d have to walk following the line of lamp posts, one by one, until she arrived at the payphone cabin to call a taxi.
Justine walked. Step by step she went from one lamp post to the another. When she thought she was distancing herself from the light, there it was again, being produced by the next lamp post.
However, up ahead she could see that there was a gap. Two circles of light were oddly away. Which means one of the lamp posts wasn’t working. Not even properly because the light wasn’t blinking. It wasn’t working at all.
Justine got closer to that void. Scared, she attempted to cross it. She failed.
